Very early on Tuesday morning, July 7, a lady from Branford was very seriously injured in a boating accident.
According to Branford Fire and Police Departments, the accident happened shortly after midnight on the border between East Haven and Brandford in an area between Payne’s Point and Kelsey Island near the Farm River.
A female, thought to be a passenger in the boar had severe injuries to her left arm, her face and her back. She was taken immediately to Yale New Haven Hospital in critical condition.
The male operator of the boat was treated at the scene and did not need to go to hospital.
It appears that a rope from the stern of the boat had fallen into the water and become tangled in the propeller which may have caused the boat to swerve suddenly and the female to fall out. She was then hit by the boat when in the water.
The accident is being investigated by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Branford Police Department, and the United States Coast Guard.
